Malta’s personal tax regime is extremely beneficial for foreigners who choose to reside in Malta. Residents who are not also domiciled in Malta, are generally only taxed on income which arises in or is remitted to Malta. If they take up residence under the Global Residence Programme, a flat tax rate of 15% will be applied on all income received or remitted to Malta, subject to a minimum annual tax payable of €15,000 after claiming any applicable double tax relief. Any income which arises in Malta (as for example from the exercise of any activity on the island) is chargeable at a tax rate of 35%. This applies to non-EU residents.
