Għaxaq is one of the small villages on the south-eastern side of Malta, not far away from the airport. It is a quiet village comprising mainly of farmhouses, some of which date back 300 years or more. The small streets behind the parish church are the most charming, and typical of old Maltese villages. Għaxaq, surrounded predominantly by agricultural land. The parish church, dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady, is a huge baroque temple built in 1756, and still dominates the village skyline. It contains works of art collected over some three centuries.
